Elie Tahari

| Central Park West

A perennial favorite among style-conscious career women in New York and beyond, Elie Tahari has made a name for himself with his tailored cropped jackets, shift dresses and pretty swing coats. In fact, his over-40-year-old label has become synonymous with modern professional dressing (a Tahari dress is a near “join-the-workforce” rite of passage). That being said, the designer isn’t just resting on his laurels. Pairing urban-minded bombers and mixed media jackets with slouchy trousers and leather leggings, Tahari’s most recent collections prove he has real, off-duty weekend appeal too. Here, he sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal his little black book on NYC.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee at Ninth Street Espresso in the East Village (MAP IT, x). They have the best cappuccinos.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Marea (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). My favorite dish is the Pesce Spada: a grilled swordfish with peppers, romesco and almonds. It’s the perfect light weight summer dish and it’s delicious!

BEST OUTDOOR SPACE: There is nothing like The High Line on a warm spring day! My children and I go for walks up there and get ice cream cones. It’s one of my favorite outdoor spaces in the city.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: Rosé. My favorite is Perrier-Jouet. I always order it at Cipriani Downtown (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

GUILTY PLEASURE: Lady M Bakery (MAP IT, x). We always celebrate office birthdays with their signature Lady M Milles Crepes cake.

FAVORITE CUISINE: I love Persian food. It’s comfort food that reminds me of home. For late  nights at the office, my team and I always order in from Colbeh (MAP IT, x).

IDEAL SATURDAY: Riding bikes with my children in Central Park, then having lunch at the Boathouse (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: I’ll have to defer to you on that one.

THING I MISS MOST WHEN I’M AWAY: The vibe and energy of the city. There is nothing like it. New York has provided me with endless inspiration throughout my 40 years in business.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: Jonathan Adler in the West Village (MAP IT, x). He has everything for the home, from picture frames to great neon decanters to candles.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: After 9/11, I was overcome with emotion for my adopted country, the place I call home and the land that gave me the opportunity to live my dream. I wrapped the entire front of my design studio in a giant American flag. CP
