Laura Brown

Executive Editor, Harper’s Bazaar

| Upper East Side

What do Hilary Clinton, Elmo and Kim Kardashian have in common? Well for starters, Laura Brown. Equal parts bubbly and clever, the platinum blonde Aussie has had countless celebrities in her hot seat. She’s fearless, disarming and always up for anything (have you seen the video where Kardashian not-so successfully contours her face?) At Harper’s Bazaar, Brown oversees the creative direction of the mag’s high-profile cover stories— she’s produced over 80, and yet she still finds the time to host her own ultra-popular YouTube video series, The Look… All in a (New York) day’s work, no? Here, Brown sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: The East Pole (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s fresh and healthy and there is booze.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee at Via Quadronno (MAP IT, x) because it’s across the street.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Barbuto (MAP IT, x). All Carbonara, all the time.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: Champagne at Bemelmans at The Carlyle (MAP IT, x).

GIRL’S NIGHT OUT: Nightingale 9 (MAP IT, x), my friend Kerry Diamond’s restaurant in Brooklyn.

BEST BRUNCH: Sant Ambroeus (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)— great eggs, elegant service.

HEALTHY STAPLE: E.J.’s (MAP IT, x) for a turkey sandwich.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Delivery Bolognese from Via Quadronno.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: The Chrysler building. Oh, and my friends…

REGULAR AT: The Met Museum (MAP IT, x). It’s six blocks from my apartment so I can go on the way to get milk.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: The lounge area at The Carlyle between Bemelmans and the restaurant. It’s a lovely, sneaky spot.

DELIVERY GO-TO: Vermicelli Vietnamese (*Location now closed). I get the chicken vermicelli noodles.

TO SEE AND BE SEEN: Indochine (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). But, I also just like the food.

TO ESCAPE: The Carlyle! It is very multi-functional. You just have to pick your night or day.

CLOSET CHECK: I wear jeans and heels in winter and strange hippy florals in summer. This fall, I’d like a large pink fur or faux fur coat— heaven from Gucci, but mine will be from Whistles. I’m also into this crazy seventies striped cardigan I just got from Prada. I call it the “Pradagan.”

BEST HOME DÉCOR: My style is a mix of Mid-century, Rococo and African… I know not why. I like ceramics from Etsy or Paris, Berlin flea markets. Chelsea Flea Market (MAP IT, x) has a great African fabrics dealer downstairs too.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Jenny Balding (x) at Cutler Salon (MAP IT, x). It’s the best haircut I’ve ever had.

FIT PICK: My workout schedule is, um, irregular. SoulCycle (MAP IT, x) when I’m being a good girl. The best instructor is Kiane von Mueffling (x).

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT:
There have been so many so I’ll just do the most recent: A girl alone on a scooter on Park Avenue with a “Just Married” sign and a trail of cans, shooting herself with a GoPro. #Modern. CP
