If “modern dressing” isn’t the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the words “dickeys, wide-leg flares and jumpsuits,” you’re probably not alone, although it’s more than likely you’ve yet to meet Veronica Beard. Founded by sister-in-laws Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard, the eponymous label is known for reinvigorating tired wardrobe staples with contemporary appeal. In fact, the brand launched with the “dickey blazer” (a fitted jacket with detachable insets ranging from cotton to wool cable-knit) as an answer to streamlined, multifunctional dressing, now a house signature. With eight children between them and backgrounds in finance and fashion respectively, the dynamic duo’s greatest asset lies in the fact that they know what women today want… After all, they want it too. Here, the Beard girls sit down with CITIPHILE to reveal their little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: VMB: We live on the same block as Jo Jo (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). We keep going back because of its very cozy, townhouse setting. We love the crispy salmon sushi— it’s the fattening kind!
VSB: Il Cantinori (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is our go-to spot and our favorite thing to order is not on the menu. Ask for the “Jamie Beard” special (named after my husband): it’s tagliolini with crumbled sausage and peas in a creamy vodka sauce and it’s divine!

COFFEE OR TEA: VMB: Joe’s at Columbia (MAP IT, x). I’m a true addict.
VSB: Coffee from Bagel Bob’s (MAP IT, x).

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: VMB: Babbo (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). The Calamari alla Piastra with white beans and hot peppers is great. Batali blends flavors like no other chef out there!

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: VMB: A margarita (salt is a must) at Rosa Mexicano (MAP IT, x).
VSB: Swanson Vineyards Merlot or a margarita.

HEALTHY STAPLE: VMB: Narcissa (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for the rotisserie beets and mission figs.
VSB: Clay Gym’s (MAP IT, x) green juice.

GUILTY PLEASURE: VMB: A bucket of popcorn at the movie theatre.
VSB: A cheeseburger and fries from Westville (MAP IT, x).

BEST BRUNCH: VMB: Norma’s (MAP IT, x) at Le Parker Meridien. The menu will blow your mind, but you won’t eat for a week after.

IDEAL SATURDAY: VSB: Breakfast at Sarabeth’s (MAP IT, x), a trip to the MoMA (MAP IT, x) with the kids, shopping at Bergdorf Goodman (MAP IT, x) and dinner with friends!

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: VMB: The food, my family and the energy!
VSB: Delivery.

FAVORITE CUISINE: VSB: Pizza. Spunto (MAP IT, x) is my favorite.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: VMB: One of our favorite, small Italian restaurants like Sette Mezzo (MAP IT, x), Sant Ambroeus (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) or Scalianatella (MAP IT, x), and a taping of SNL.
VSB: Have I mentioned Il Cantinori?

KID-FRIENDLY STAPLE: VMB: It was Pastis; we will definitely be there when they re-open their new location. We’re at the American Museum of Natural History (MAP IT, x) a few times a week (for the Science and Nature program). They know us there and my kids roam free! It’s like a second home; it is so easy when it’s raining and they can’t play outside.
VSB: Pop Burger (MAP IT, x). The sliders are our favorite!

REGULAR AT: VMB: Joe’s. They know me because I go there every day after I drop the kids at school. It’s the easiest place to sit and do work, read or talk!

TO RELAX AND UNWIND: VMB: I take the kids to New Jersey on the weekends where my daughter rides (at Crewe Hill Stables in Morristown (x)).  It has become my spot to meditate for the 2 or 3 hours that she rides and grooms her pony. It’s incredibly peaceful to watch the horses.
VSB: Iris Nail on University Place (MAP IT, x). I basically run there after the kids are in bed!

NY ICON: VSB: The Lowell Hotel (MAP IT, x). It’s where my parents have always stayed so that neighborhood was the first New York I ever knew.

FOR THE KIDS: VMB: I love classic clothing for kids. Jacadi (MAP IT, x) is a favorite, along with Ralph Lauren (MAP IT) or Oscar de la Renta (MAP IT). For toys, I like shopping at E.A.T. on 80th Street and Madison Avenue (MAP IT, x).

BEST HOME DÉCOR: VMB: I love Italian and French antiques. We found a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk on our honeymoon and it has traveled with us every time we have moved.  It’s now in our family room and could tell a lot of stories about our growing family because it’s where we have all congregated for the last 15 years!  Every time someone comes to our house, they comment on that trunk (it can’t be ruined as it gets better with age!).  There are still tags on it from the different countries it had been to before coming to NYC.  The kids fight over who will get it one day and the answer is NO ONE!  Hopefully, it will keep them coming home to congregate around!

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: VMB: Zezé Flowers (MAP IT, x).
VSB: William Wayne (MAP IT, x) or Tudor Rose (MAP IT, x), a small antique silver store that is great for wedding gifts, baby gifts or gifts for husbands.

FIT PICK: VMB: If I’m feeling flabs, I get out the slide board in my house.  It’s an anaerobic workout that takes 4 minutes a day.  It’s a virtual speed skating motion that works your outer and inner thighs along with your stomach and arms because you have to propel yourself with each movement.
VSB: I go to Clay and train with Veronika Zajicova often. Recently, I’ve fallen in love with SLT (MAP IT, x) too.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: VMB: Butterfly Studio (MAP IT, x). Christina and Dana transform me in very little time and it is always a pleasure!
VSB: Nikki Chick at Marie Robinson (MAP IT, x) for highlights.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: VMB: Every quarter, we try to build camaraderie amongst our team by doing something together in the city.  This year, our design team had the idea to go to the “Nightmare New York Haunted House.”  While I was gripping my co-worker for dear life, I thought to myself, “Yes, this event has made me love the ones I’m with, but how messed up is it that we are paying to be FREAKED OUT OF OUR MINDS?!”
VSB: Our first billboard for Bergdorf Goodman on 7th Avenue. It was surreal. CP
