It’s the little things in life and women’s wear designer Yigal Azrouel knows it. From sophisticated cut-outs to asymmetrical zippers and unexpected cropped hemlines, Azrouel’s eponymous label oscillates between polished and sporty. Grounded in strong architectural lines, his signature designs like trapeze tops, jumpsuits and sheath dresses shine with the uptmost modernity. Still, we can always count on the brand for elevated classics like the perfect LBD or the just-slouchy-enough cigarette trouser. All in all, Azrouel offers clean, contemporary clothing for the women of New York and beyond. Here, he sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal his little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Bar Pitti (MAP IT, x). It’s hard to pin-point a specific dish that I love since I tend to order the items that are in season. I always go for their seasonal salads and sometimes indulge in the truffle pastas. I like the simpler dishes on the menu.

COFFEE OR TEA: Black coffee at Stumptown (MAP IT, x).

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Jewel Bako (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). I always enjoy fresh fish and Jewel Bako has some of the best sushi. I like to order the omakase.

BEST BRUNCH: I prefer classic spots for brunch; I always have a good time at Sant Ambroeus in the West Village (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Outdoor seating at any restaurant— the streets of New York were made for people watching.

WHERE TO BRING OUT-OF-TOWNERS: My recommendations for out-of-towners range from old-school to trendy. A NY institution like Bobo (MAP IT, x) is fun.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: I’m not a cocktail fan, but a glass of wine is always nice. My favorite bar is Baby Grand (MAP IT, x).

GUILTY PLEASURE: Shakshouka at any time!

DELIVERY GO-TO: Momoya (MAP IT, x).

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: Not sure if it’s a secret anymore, but it is definitely off-the-beaten path: Freeman’s in the Lower East Side (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: The energy of the city.

REGULAR AT: 12 Chairs (MAP IT, x). It’s a quaint little restaurant cooking up food that is familiar to me. I never have to make a reservation and the food is very good.

FAVORITE BOUTIQUE: New York Vintage (MAP IT, x).

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: The first time I showed at New York Fashion Week. CP
