Erica Domesek

Founder, P.S.- I Made This

| Gramercy

Remember the last time you picked up a jewel-encrusted Balmain belt or a studded Prada mule and thought to yourself, “Ehh, I could easily make that?” Yeah, us neither— that is, until we met Erica Domesek. The founder and author of P.S.- I Made This, Domesek is the queen of arts-and-crafts for the adult-aged and fashion-obsessed. In fact, her lifestyle brand was the first to put DIY on the map (and no, we aren’t talking of the popsicle-stick-and-glue variety). Rather, Domesek’s projects find inspiration in modern runway trends and elevated home décor à la quartz barrettes, feather stilettos, marbled vases and gilded iPad cases. Posted online with step-by-step how-to’s and accompanying mood boards (they’re stunning enough to make any fashion editor or stylist swoon), there is little Domesek hasn’t tackled. Likewise, thumbing through her two books, P.S.- I Made This… and P.S.- You’re Invited… are like striking crafting and party planning gold— we’re already working on raffia-wrapped bottles for a spring garden party. Here, Domesek sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Recently, I have been digging El Rey (MAP IT, x) in the L.E.S.— I eat most of my lunches and snacks there. The falafel is quite possibly one of the best things I have ever tasted and don’t even get me started on the chimmichurri sauce in the avocado dish. You cannot order wrong— everything is magical (including their Mexican coffee).

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee from Irving Farm (MAP IT, x) because it’s the perfect balance of cozy and energizing love in a cup.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: I love the chicken at Little Frankie’s (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x); it tastes like home.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A Tito’s gimlet. Dirty French (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) recently made a delightful one.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT: Acme (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). I went there with friends recently and they were playing great music.

BEST BRUNCH: ABC Kitchen (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is like my Cheers— it’s Old Faithful. It has delicious food and I always end up bumping into friends when I’m there. It’s nice to see how the seasonal menu changes and how they incorporate market finds into the dishes. I also really love Jeffrey’s Grocery (MAP IT, x)— great food, amazing Bloody Mary’s.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Anywhere and everywhere, 24/7. Sometimes I just sit in Union Square Park and take it all in. So many crazies… I dig it.

HEALTHY STAPLE: Olive’s in SoHo (MAP IT, x) for their soup and salad combo.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Ohhh, the truffle pizza at Gemma (MAP IT, x) falls into that category!

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: Posto‘s (MAP IT, x) Shroomtown pizza.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: Simply walking to get a cup of coffee in the morning.

REGULAR AT: ABC Kitchen, Pushcart Coffee (MAP IT, x) and El Rey.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: Minetta Tavern (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is always a good one. Also, Supper in the East Village (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

DELIVERY GO-TO: Westville (MAP IT, x).

ACCESSORIES PICK: I am a major accessories person, especially jewelry. I collect everything from vintage to modern treasures; I’ll wear a lot of vintage, then mix in some contemporary Oscar de la Renta, Alexis Bittar, Jennifer Fisher and pieces from Catbird in Brooklyn (MAP IT, x).

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: John Derian (MAP IT, x).

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: For crazy nails, book Nails by Mei (BOOK IT, x). (Follow her to see all of her crazy designs!)

FIT PICK: SoulCycle (MAP IT, x).

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT:
There is a magical and undeniable centrifugal force that the city holds. New York moments happen everyday, when you least expect it. From running into an old flame to ending up sharing a taxi cab with strangers during Fashion Week, the unexpected spirit is what keeps people on their toes and continues to deliver smiles. Where else can you run out to get a coffee and seconds later get an invitation to the ballet, later finding yourself in a gown holding a soft pretzel in the other hand? CP
