Dalia Oberlander

Founder, Latest Revival

| Upper East Side

The rife adage “you can tell a lot about a woman from the jewelry she wears” certainly applies to Dalia Oberlander: an appreciation for handcrafted designs (art-educated), an inimitable knowledge of contemporary brands (well-read) and a natural penchant for archival, estate pieces (romantic and a tinge sentimental). In fact, the Manhattan-born-and-raised beauty received her Masters in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London and spent several years working in the American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture department at Sotheby’s NYC HQ before founding Latest Revival, her jewelry-focused e-comm site. If you haven’t already heard of it, (pause) you may want to brace yourselves— LR is sort of like pillaging through your great grandmother’s jewelry box and wiping the top of your older sister’s dresser clean at the same time. There are one-of-a-kind, diamond-encrusted vintage pieces alongside modern gems from brands like Maiyet, Delfina Delettrez and Monique Péan; it’s bonafide jewelry heaven. In other words, we won’t blame you if you casually bookmark the site on your significant other’s laptop/iPhone/iPad/other; we’ve been there, and we’ve done it too. Here, Oberlander sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: My favorite neighborhood spot is Il Buco Alimentari (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x), a staple among our friends for many years. I love the cozy, rustic atmosphere and simple, delicious food.

COFFEE OR TEA: Tea! The vanilla tea at Tea & Sympathy (MAP ITx) has been a favorite forever, especially when paired with a scone and clotted cream; it’s perfection.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Since childhood, my all-time favorite restaurant has been Bouley (*Location now closed). I’ve shared so many special moments with family at David’s restaurant— birthdays, anniversary dinners, graduations, holidays etc. I had an obsession with the saffron walnut bread, the chicken, their mashed potatoes and the chocolate soufflé throughout my early adolescent years. Now, as my taste buds have evolved, I let David do his thing; I pretty much love anything and everything he serves our table— that man is a culinary genius!

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: The Crosby Street Hotel (MAP ITx) is the perfect spot for after-work drinks. I love the vibrant, charming energy and delicious cocktails. Their passion-ginger caipirinha, raspberry and lychee bellini and “St. Crosby” (St. Germain, Remy Martin VSOP, brown sugar and champagne) are all awesome.

BEST BRUNCH: My parents insist on seeing me once a week for brunch which typically means Sunday afternoons at Nougatine (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) or Boulud Sud (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). I’ve always been taught that families should eat meals together— a tradition that presently remains and that I hope to pass on.

MUSIC PICK: I’m all about old school hip-hop, rap, jazz and r&b. I gravitate toward albums that can be felt in your core. I love and will always love “What’s the 411?” by Mary J. Blige, “Midnight Marauders” by A Tribe Called Quest, “Ready to Die” by Notorious B.I.G, “Songs in the Key Life” by Stevie Wonder and “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” by Lauryn Hill.

HEALTHY STAPLE: The wheatgrass and aloe shots from Organic Avenue (*Location now closed).

GUILTY PLEASURE: The fried chicken and mac n’ cheese from Dirty Bird to Go (MAP IT, x) are insane. Also, the rose hip, caramel, pistachio and vanilla macarons from Ladurée (MAP IT, x) to satisfy my sweet tooth.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: My incredible, sweet dog, Poppy.

REGULAR AT: ABC Kitchen (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). I love the atmosphere and the yummy, local produce. It’s the perfect spot for lunch!

DATE NIGHT STANBY: The Waverly Inn (MAP ITBOOK ITx) is a favorite: the dining room feels intimate and romantic, while the garden is a lovely place to lose track of time.

DELIVERY GO-TO: I order weekly from Sushi of Gari (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x), Two Boots Pizza (MAP IT, x) or Mansion Diner (MAP IT, ORDER IT, x), but what makes me happiest is cooking healthy, organic meals at home for friends and family.

TO RELAX AND UNWIND: A spa day at Glenmere Mansion (MAP IT, x), a picnic in Central Park or a weekend at the beach in the Hamptons. My perfect day is basically laying in the sun, reading a good book, swimming in the ocean and then making a low key meal– I love, love, love these days.

CLOSET CHECK: I would say my style is classic with a twist of edgy, European sophisticate. My favorite stores include Dover Street Market (MAP IT, x) and Kirna Zabete (MAP IT, x), as well as Melet Mercantile (*Location now closed) for special, one-of-a kind, vintage pieces. My mother has the most incredible archive of YSL, Lanvin, Chanel and Christian Lacroix that I often borrow too!

ACCESSORIES PICK: As you can imagine, I have a deep fascination with jewelry. I enjoy learning the stories behind each piece and creating connections with every piece I wear. Each season, I gravitate towards mixing heritage, antique jewels with modern, innovative pieces to keep things visually interesting and current.  Having seen the upcoming collections, I’m drawn to the vibrant energy of these contemporary pieces tempered by the timeless beauty of estate selections.

BEST HOME DÉCOR: Antique markets, flea markets, auction houses and ABC Carpet & Home (MAP IT, x). I’m all about the juxtaposition of décor: think modern-meets-French-countryside with a twist of indigenous culture.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: I love giving gifts that are rare and cherished by another, really connecting to that individual—  whether it be a piece of art, an out-of-print book or a gold locket with an inscription; thoughtful gifts are always best. I’ve found many great gifts at Kinokuniya Bookstore (MAP IT, x), antique markets and Latest Revival of course.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK:  To treat myself, I’ll go for a deep tissue massage at Caudalíe Spa (MAP IT, x), a “Milk and Honey” manicure and pedicure at Jin Soon (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) and a haircut at John Barrett Salon (MAP IT, x). I’ve always done the au natural thing (yet love a day of pampering!) so trying to keep it simple for as long as I can!

FIT PICK: I do a weekly yoga session with a private instructor, but I have the best time being active with my heart AKA my dog, Poppy. She’s a Vizsla turning seven in the fall and yet she has the endless energy of a puppy.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: There are so many, from finding myself in a gown eating burgers & fries after midnight at Gramercy Tavern, to afternoon programs spent teaching children from third world countries, to off-leash mornings in Central Park, to subway rides with celebs, to dinners seated beside icons & innovators… NYC is filled with ultimate moments! CP
