Sara Sampaio

Model

| Chelsea

Chocolate croissants, pancakes and pizza delivery, Sara Sampaio is a girl after our own carbo-loving hearts… though you’d never know it. Instead, the 23-year-old Portuguese model looks more like we do after weeks of green juices (and mini-bouts of hanger). Featured in top mags like GQ, Vogue and ELLE, Sampaio is a natural knock-out— think blue eyes, olive skin and the perfectly tousled beach wave. As if you haven’t already done the math, that happens to make her perfect for Victoria’s Secret too, a major modeling gig that started with her strutting down the most-watched runway in the biz. These days, she has more than a couple VS commercials under her belt (err, négligée?) and she’s even starred alongside fellow angel Adriana Lima in a Blumarine campaign… Angels of a feather flock together. Here, Sampaio sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: I love Toro (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) and always order a salad, tomato bread and the chicken empanadas; everything is always so fresh! My favorite neighborhood for a good meal is SoHo. I love Italian food so I frequent Gemma (MAP IT, x) often— I love their margarita pizza and the European décor.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee from  FIKA (MAP IT, x). I have one under my building and my best friend has one under his building too. Every time we visit, we bring each other a cup— he knows my order and I know his.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: I don’t think I have an all-time favorite yet, but I love Nobu Next Door (*Location now closed)Gemma, Zuma (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) and Harry’s Café & Steak (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). Harry’s has amazing steak and it has become a go-to brunch spot for me and my best friend.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A margarita at Oficina Latina (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: Stone Street Tavern in FiDi (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

GIRLS NIGHT OUT: I love a good karaoke night at Sing Sing (MAP IT, x) or the karaoke room at Up & Down (MAP IT, x). I also like to pop in random bars with my friends.

BEST BRUNCH: Cafeteria (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)— they have great milkshakes and pancakes.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Times Square, no doubt.

HEALTHY STAPLE: The Butcher’s Daughter (MAP IT, x) has the best kale salad.

GUILTY PLEASURE: I love pizza and actually frequently order in Papa John’s (MAP ITORDER IT).

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: It wouldn’t be a secret if I told you…

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: Having everything you need at your doorstep.

REGULAR AT: I go to FIKA every morning to get my cappuccino and a chocolate croissant.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: I always make sure my date chooses the spot. You can tell a lot about a man by the place he chooses to take you on a date.

DELIVERY GO-TO: I use Seamless often— I’ve been ordering from Hana Sushi (MAP IT, ORDER IT, x) a lot, but Papa John’s is my favorite.

TO SEE AND BE SEEN: Nobu Next Door, TAO (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x), Up and Down and SoHo House (MAP IT, x).

TO RELAX AND UNWIND: Central Park.

DREAM SHOOT LOCATION: Times Square or the American Museum of Natural History (MAP IT, x).

CLOSET CHECK: I’d say my personal style is elegant and simple with a hint of sexy. I wear a lot of black and white. I love to shop at Intermix (MAP IT, x) for clothes and Barneys (MAP IT, x) for shoes. Intermix has the best selection of high-end street brands that I love. Just this winter, I found the perfect pair of Rag & Bone leather pants there.

ACCESSORIES PICK: I love Maria Tash (MAP IT, x) for tiny, simple and elegant jewelry. I’m also obsessed with this ring I got at Atelier Minyon (MAP IT, x)— it’s a skull and looks somewhat badass, yet still chic.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: I always go for wine… you can’t go wrong with a good bottle of wine.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Mauricio Bermudez (x) from Suite Caroline Salon (MAP IT, x) is the only person I trust to cut my hair. Mamie (x) from Skin by Mamie (MAP IT, x) is one of the best facialists in the city; my skin started breaking out a lot due to stress and she did wonders to it.

FIT PICK: I try to go to the gym at least twice a week, but I tend to get really lazy. I like to box with Rob Piela (x) from Gotham Gym (MAP IT, x)— I’ve been training with him for almost 3 years. I also started taking Model FIT (MAP IT, x) classes (which focus on toning) and I’ll do yoga once in a while.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: I once had a date where we ended up in Times Square at Dave & Busters. We were trying to find the Naked Cowboy so we could take pictures with him and afterwards, we couldn’t find a cab anywhere (you would be surprised how hard it is sometimes!) so we ended up taking a pedi cab all the way home.
