How do we do New York Fashion Week? Well, besides avoiding heeled footwear and the throngs of “aspiring street style photographers” (we’re not as young nor as, um, eager as we used to be), we throw a kick-ass rooftop dinner party, bringing food and wine to our meek, weak and hungry fashion friends (OK, maybe we’re being a bit dramatic, but show-going’s no joke y’all). Joined by our favorite design darlings, Scott Studenberg and John Targon of Baja East, CITIPHILE‘s Editorial Director, Alexandria Geisler and the Baja boys co-hosted the third installment of our invite-only CPSC.

What made the evening particularly special was that not only we’re we toasting to New York Fashion Week and our co-hosts’ winning SS ’17 collection, but we were celebrating the guys’ foray into an entirely different venture: winemaking. The event marked the official debut of “Thirsty by Baja East,” a red blend from Lodi, CA made in collaboration with Winc. With notes of tobacco, black cherry, bacon and pepper, it’s brooding, seductive, sexy and sweet– of course, the Baja boys are behind it. It was exactly the kind of wine you’d want on the first of fall’s cool nights.

Speaking of which, thanks in large part to the venue– the party was held on the brand-new rooftop of Williamsburg’s William Vale Hotel— it was one of the most memorable evenings we’ve put on to date. As the sun was setting, guests including models Dilone and Maggie Maurer, DJ/photographer Leslie Kirchhoff, stylist Karen Kaiser and designer Recho Omondi, were greeted with hibiscus-infused bubbly and the hotel’s jaw-dropping Manhattan views (they practically span the entire city skyline). Small bites of smoked salmon puffs and pea spring rolls with a yogurt dipping sauce were passed around as canapés– “That sauce though… it’s unreal. I really wanted to double dip. I promise I’ll use the other end!,” laughed Studenberg as servers made their rounds. With star chef Andrew Carmellini behind the party’s menu, it turns out Studenberg’s thoughts would become the theme of the evening. The seated, four-course family-style meal had guests planning their next visit to Westlight (the rooftop restaurant’s name) before dessert was set down. The venue’s cuisine draws inspiration from Asian street food which translated into quinoa-broccolini lettuce cups and charred naan with hummus as starters, roasted eggplant dumplings and grilled octopus skewers as mid-courses, and ancho chile diver scallops with sweet corn succotash, plus roast chicken with creamy polenta and stewed peppers as third courses. The dumplings, octopus skewers and scallops were the top dishes for most guests, but Studenberg had eyes for sweets instead, “Peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite!,” he exclaimed before reaching over for one of the peanut butter chocolate bars with salted caramel ice cream now decorating the tables. “I haven’t tried the summer berries with sorbet yet, but I’ll get to those after.” As guests readied to leave, there wasn’t a full plate or filled glass in sight.
