Designer, Loeffler Randall

| Park Slope

Never mix love with business… that is, unless you’re Jessie Randall and Brian Murphy. Together, the husband-and-wife duo make up cool girl accessories brand Loeffler Randall— Randall handles the design front, while Murphy oversees business and branding. The difference is: whereas we may have been driven mad by our partner’s lack of appreciation for our “creative process,” Randall and Murphy were a near overnight success. Selling to Bergdorf Goodman in their first season, their 10-year-old label has since collaborated with brands including Suno, Tucker and Gwyenth Paltrow’s Goop, not to mention has fans like Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts and Kate Hudson. All of the brand’s signatures— from its Rider shoulder bag to slingback flats— speak to Randall’s push for accessories that are at once understated, polished and functional, a vision that ultimately won her the CFDA’s Swarovski Award for Accessory Design. As of late, she’s gussied up velcro slides thanks to a spotted cheetah print, made metallic footwear practical via an ankle-strap and kitten heel, and created the perfect summer bucket bag in perforated leather. Each LR piece is cool, progressive and surprisingly practical… sounds like a certain couple we know. Here, Randall sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Fonda (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for their amazing guacamole and delicious margaritas. I eat there at least once a week.

COFFEE OR TEA: I like to go to Couleur Cafe (MAP IT, x) for a large black iced tea— the best.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Franny’s (*Location now closed) is the best. If you have kids, they have an amazing pasta with butter, cheese and pepper that isn’t listed on the menu (cacio e pepe); I always order it for myself.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A vodka gimlet on the rocks. I like Clover Club (MAP IT, x) on Smith Street (even their ice cubes are beautiful).

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: Brooklyn Inn (MAP IT, x) is a great old-school bar.

LADIES LUNCH: Jack’s Wife Freda (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) in SoHo where my office is. If I’m in Brooklyn, I’ll eat at Franny’s for a business lunch or Frankie’s (MAP ITx).

BEST BRUNCH: I like Prime Meats (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) because it opens super early and my kids get up at the crack of dawn.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: In SoHo, right by my office.

HEALTHY STAPLE: Birdbath Bakery (MAP IT, x) for a chicken salad.

GUILTY PLEASURE: In Brooklyn, it’s ice cream from Ample Hills Creamery (MAP IT, x).

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: Park Slope has the best bagel place in the whole city; it is a real hole-in-the-wall and you would never expect it, but these are the best bagels I’ve ever had. It’s called The Bagel Hole (MAP IT, x) and it’s on 7th Avenue.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: Purl SoHo (MAP IT, x) for craft supplies.

REGULAR AT: Fonda. I also love the SoulCycle in SoHo (MAP IT, x).

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: Sometimes we go to Thistle Hill Tavern (*Location now closed). It’s close to our house and it has good food and a nice atmosphere.

DELIVERY TO-GO: Sushi— a peanut avocado roll with no fish roe and vegetable tempura to be exact— from Kiku Sushi (MAP IT, ORDER IT, x).

TO ESCAPE AND UNWIND: Jamaica.

CLOSET CHECK: I try to be comfortable and chic at the same time so I lean towards neutral colors. I love a great pair of shoes with a great coat. My go-to boutiques for special items are Bird in Brooklyn (MAP IT, x) and Zimmermann (MAP IT) or Warm (MAP IT, x) in SoHo.

BEST HOME DÉCOR: Again, my style is comfortable and chic. I go for a relaxing, soothing vibe at my house because our life is so chaotic and I like my home to be a retreat. I actually find my favorite home décor via Instagram and Etsy.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: Flowers or a gift certificate to Paint Box (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for a mani/pedi.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Snip n’ Sip in the West Village (MAP IT, x) for cut and color.

FIT PICK: SoulCycle is my go to!

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: Once, the guys at our parking garage noticed our inspection was about to be due so they had an inspector come in and inspect the car for us. It was all taken care of by the time we picked our car back up. They didn’t even ask; they just did it to be nice. CP
