Here’s the thing: Lauren Bush Lauren aims high— really high— as in whilst all of us were asking, “What’s next?” at our college graduations, Lauren’s dream had already been set in motion (that “dream” being to end world hunger, BTW). Ah, but when you’ve crossed more than a few mega-milestones off your “life list” as an undergrad (ahem, think an internship for fellow CITIPHILE Zac Posen and modeling gigs for the covers of Vogue and Vanity Fair), why shouldn’t the sky be the limit? During her junior year at Princeton, Lauren was exposed to the crisis of world hunger when traveling to Chad as a UN student ambassador; just two years later, she was celebrating the launch of FEED, her bag-centered business that’s since donated over 95 million meals to kids in 63 countries around the world (get this: every purchase of a signature FEED 1 bag feeds one child in school for a full year). Originally, the fair-labor bags were limited to burlap; however, today, cotton canvas, straw and even dressed-up leather styles are available (each gets stamped with a number corresponding to how many meals it provides). Of course now there’s also Lauren’s first FEED Shop & Café in Dumbo— a charming neighborhood coffee shop she stocks with FEED bags and other tiny, sustainable treasures— and FEED Supper, a program that allows anyone to host their own fundraising dinner parties (complete with theme, invitation and recipe ideas). When Lauren isn’t busy saving the world, she’s cozied up at home with her husband, David Lauren (son of little ol’ fashion designer, Ralph Lauren) and their beautiful son, James— naturally, we imagine her closet is full of RL-designed superwoman capes. Here, she sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: The Butcher’s Daughter (MAP ITx) is my local go-to because it is healthy, fresh and veggie-friendly. I love their smashed avocado toast.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee from FEED Shop & Café (MAP IT, x) because the FEED Heritage Blend is deliciously roasted in partnership with La Colombe (it’s ethically sourced and certified organic) and for every cup served, we donate a meal [to someone in need]— what could be better than that?!

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Perhaps it is a little biased since it’s family, but The Polo Bar (MAP IT, BOOK ITx) is my all-time favorite restaurant— it has that quintessential New York ambiance and hearty, delicious food.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A Moscow mule from The Polo Bar. It is so elegant and cozy in there and they make an amazing Moscow mule served in a copper cup the way it is meant to be.

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: The Standard (MAP ITx).

LADIES LUNCH/DINNER: Café Clover (MAP ITBOOK ITx).

WHERE TO BRING OUT-OF-TOWNERS: The Whitney Museum (MAP ITx), The High Line and FEED Shop & Café.

MUSIC PICK: My favorite music is classic folk rock from the ‘70s. I think FEED Shop & Café has the best playlist [in the area] because I made it… My favorite venue for live music is The Beacon Theatre (MAP ITx).

BEST BRUNCH: Cecconi’s (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is one of my new favorite weekend brunch spots. It’s located in the Empire Stores in Dumbo (which is the same building as FEED Shop & Café).

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: The subway.

HEALTHY STAPLE: Sweetgreen (MAP IT, x).

GUILTY PLEASURE: Dylan’s Candy Bar (MAP IT, x).

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: Red Farm (MAP ITx) and Café Cluny (MAP ITBOOK ITx) are my favorite date night spots; they are both so quaint and their food is delicious!

DELIVERY GO-TO: Rosemary’s (MAP ITBOOK ITx) via Caviar.

QUOTIDIAN KEEPER: Greenwich Letterpress (MAP ITx) for letter-pressed stationary; Paint Box Art & Framing (MAP IT, x) for framing; David’s Shoe and Watch Repair (MAP IT, x) for all shoe repair needs!

GO-TO GETAWAY: Duryea’s Lobster Deck in Montauk (MAP ITx) for farm-fresh food and spectacular sunset views.

TO RELAX AND UNWIND: The West Side Highway or Brooklyn Bridge Park (MAP ITx).

CLOSET CHECK: My style is classic with touches of eclectic boho. I shop at Polo Ralph Lauren and then mix in some vintage pieces from Front General Store in Brooklyn (MAP IT, x).

BEST HOME DÉCOR: My preferred interior style is a mixture of classic and eclectic elements. I love John Derian (MAP ITx)— it’s a beautiful curation of home décor and unique vintage accents.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: FEED bags and finds from FEED Shop & Café— they’re gifts that give twice!

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Julien Farel (x) has been doing my hair for over a decade so I can highly recommend his salon on the U.E.S. (MAP ITx).

FIT PICK: My routine varies, but I love The Class by Taryn Toomey (MAP ITBOOK ITx), Intensati by Patricia Moreno (MAP IT, x) and Yoga 216, a boutique yoga studio in Chelsea (MAP IT, x).

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: My first date with my now-husband David over a decade ago was at a restaurant near Central Park and we ended up taking a carriage ride through the park afterwards. It was a very romantic and memorable New York moment. CP

From L to R: First Row: Greenwich Letterpress; Art at The Whitney Museum; A latte from FEED; The Class by Taryn Toomey. Second Row: FEED Shop & Café; Candy from Dylan’s Candy Bar; Sweetgreen salads; Brunch at Cecconi’s Dumbo.
