Laurie Trott

Fashion Director, Goop

| West Hollywood

Tucked away in a lush courtyard in West Hollywood, Laurie Trott’s home is the kind of, “Topanga Canyon hippie meets Hollywood Regency” abode that LA dreams are made of: bougainvillea cascades from the roofline, a woven bohemian hammock hangs outside, and Tower Bar’s stellar martinis are a mere hop, skip and a jump away (literally). But then again, why would the native New Yorker and Fashion Director of Goop trade in her East Coast roots for life out West if not to fully soak up all that is, “LA?” In Trott’s words, “People come to LA for the sun. They stay for the farmer’s markets.” (She’s not wrong.) Trott came to West Hollywood from NYC’s East Village where her career in editorial fashion began— first as a stylist for W Mag, then as Fashion Director of ELLE Girl (which she also launched), a Senior Fashion Editor at Lucky and a contributing editor at ELLE. In other words, she’s dressed everyone from J. Law to Blake Lively and can file fellow CITIPHILES Ben Watts and Kenneth Cappello under, “former co-workers.” Now at Gwyneth Paltrow’s female lifestyle brand, Trott styles Goop’s fashion stories including those in its newly launched, printed magazine. When she isn’t girl-bossing it up with GP, she’s hiking, drinking turmeric juices and sitting next to one Ms. Joan Collins… how’s that for a New Yorker in LA? Here, Trott sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on LA.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Night + Market on Sunset Boulevard (MAP ITx) for the seafood pad Thai, crispy rice salad and chicken wings.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee from the Starbucks because they know my order, I can walk there [from home] and they serve “puppacinos” to my dog.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: That’s so tough because I love different restaurants for different dishes. One of my all-time favorite restaurants is Sushi Park (MAP ITx). Get the chef’s choice omakase; you can’t go wrong.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A vodka martini, up, with a twist. Tower Bar at The Sunset Tower Hotel (MAP ITBOOK ITx) makes it perfectly. (Plus, it just feels so chic and quintessential “LA.”)

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: Chateau Marmont (MAP ITx) or Cecconi’s (MAP ITBOOK ITx). Cecconi’s has a great happy hour with crudité and Aperol spritzes.

LADIES LUNCH: SoHo House inWeHo (MAP ITx).

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Whenever you’re stuck in traffic, just look around you!

HEALTHY STAPLE: Erewhon (MAP ITx) for a macro salad with turmeric-tahini dressing. They have a great selection of grab-and-go salads and a great ginger/turmeric/cayenne juice situation.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Tacos! From Pinches Tacos on Sunset (MAP ITx)…

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: The produce. In LA, you come for the sunshine; stay for the farmer’s market.

REGULAR AT: Tower Bar. I am there 2-3 times per week. (They even know the name of my dog, Noodle…)

DELIVERY GO-TO: Gusto on West 3rd Street (MAP ITBOOK ITx) or Mandarette (MAP IT, x).

TO ESCAPE AND UNWIND: Waking up super early to hike the Westridge Trail in Mandeville Canyon (x) with Noodle!

GO-TO GETAWAY: I don’t get to go very often, but my favorite place to get away is The Ranch at Live Oak in Malibu (MAP ITx).

CLOSET CHECK: My style can be described as, “tomboy with a ruffle.” I love [wearing] a button-down shirt with a cashmere crew neck, reworked Levi’s and a pair of Adidas sneakers. I do a lot of my shopping online— especially on Goop. In person, I like to go to Barneys (MAP ITx), Bassike in Venice (MAP IT, x) for the perfect tee shirt and Neiman Marcus (MAP IT) when I’m looking for an over-the-top shoe.

QUOTIDIAN KEEPER: Ball & Bone‘s pack hikes. Siobhan shows up with an SUV full of dogs, takes them to Runyon for a pack hike, then drops them back off exhausted!

BEST HOME DÉCOR: My interior style is a mash-up of minimal mid-century modern with some Topanga Canyon hippie and Hollywood Regency thrown in. Greys, pinks and whites and my preferred color palette. I really want to buy another Daniel Clurman canvas from the Manisamaid series and I can’t resist a good chandelier… I love [the home décor at] The Apartment by The Line (MAP ITx)— so inspiring!

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTSGoop, obviously!

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: The Vampire facial at Dr. Trott’s office in Beverly Hills (MAP IT, x). Shameless plug: she’s my sister! However, it does make my skin bright and glowing and it reduces scarring! Also, I like to get pedicures at Olive & June (MAP IT, x).

FIT PICK: I turned into a hiking maniac when I moved to LA; I flip between Griffith Park (MAP ITx) and Mandeville Canyon. I also try to go to pilates four days per week— Harmony Studios (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is so close to my home that I can walk there and it’s by-far the best pilates training I’ve ever had! Jen Martin’s class will kick you a%$ in the best possible way; I just started doing private sessions with her and she’s completely changing my body!

ULTIMATE LA MOMENT: One casual night out for dinner at Tower Bar, my friends and I were sat next to Joan Collins… JOAN COLLINS! CP
