Lubov Azria

Chief Creative Officer, BCBG Max Azria

| Midtown West

If Limited Too was the key to our hearts in elementary school (all glitter jeans all the time), it was inevitably BCBG that took its place as soon as we gained some veritable fashion know-how (we needn’t remind ’90’s kids of the brand’s unrivaled prom monopoly). The life’s work of husband-and-wife duo Max and Lubov Azria, the fashion house is a perennial favorite of A-List red carpet stars too— Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna are fans— thanks no doubt to its universally form-flattering designs (we’re looking at you, Hervé Léger-‘twas you who made perfectly-lifted rear ends happen). A mother to five daughters, it makes sense that Lubov is behind each and every sought-after collection— she’s a woman who knows what women want. Like the Mongolian-esque knee-length vests from yesterday’s BCBG F/W ‘15 show, or the myriad of embellished overcoats we wish were available now. And, to our utmost satisfaction, we were pleased to find out that her favorite Manhattan haunts are just as sublime. Here, Azria sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Lupa on Thompson Street (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is a true neighborhood gem. Locals and visitors mingle in the cozy space with truly exceptional, authentic Roman dishes (everything is farm-to-table!)

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee! Home is where your heart is so my office is where my espresso machine is set up. My current coffee du jour is a “Flat White” (Italian espresso, steamed milk, vanilla and micro-foam). Try one at Culture Espresso (MAP IT, x)!

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Lupa for the pumpkin cappellacci— it’s this tender, fresh pasta filled with sweet pumpkin and smothered in a sage butter sauce; it’s my absolute favorite.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A great sangria. My favorite bar is Boom Boom Room (MAP IT, x)— the song “New York” by Alicia Keys immediately comes to mind.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Front row at fashion week of course! It’s the best, and certainly the best-dressed, people watching.

HEALTHY STAPLE: Organic Avenue (*Location now closed) for a collard wrap.

FASHION WEEK DIET: Almonds to snack on throughout the day; oatmeal and espresso backstage before the show!

GUILTY PLEASURE: Chocolate in my oatmeal from Le Pain Quotidien (MAP IT).

POST-FASHION SHOW PARTY: Boom Boom Room.

NY’S BEST KEPT-SECRET: I could tell you… but a girl has to keep some secrets.

REGULAR AT: The Whitney (MAP IT, x)— always worth a trip!

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: If Max and I can get away from work while in NY, we will go anywhere. For us, it’s about spending time together. Mercer Kitchen in SoHo (MAP IT, BOOK ITx) is great— it’s modern and open, but still intimate with a fantastic menu by Jean-Georges.

TO GET INSPIRED: ABC Carpet & Home (MAP IT, x). Incidentally, it served as the catalyst for the inspiration for last season’s runway show.

TO SEE AND BE SEEN: I love to attend the annual Whitney Art Party.

CLOSET CHECK: My style can be described as “connoisseur with a visionary twist.” I love Dover Street Market (MAP IT, x) for unique, special pieces. I also love anything by Comme des Garçons (MAP IT, x).

S/S ’15 LOOK: Lightweight jackets. For trends, texture and color for that “cool factor.”

BEST HOME DÉCOR: I love to visit flea markets wherever they pop up— I will travel miles for a good soleil mirror to add to my collection.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: BCBG. We have feather iPad pens for one…

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Dr. Lancer products for skincare, and massages on demand through my new favorite app, Zeel.com

FIT PICK: Depends on the weather. I love to run on the beach as a California girl, but in the NY snow, it’s all about the treadmill!

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: When we live streamed the BCBG runway show in Times Square. CP
