Marina Larroude

Fashion Director, Barneys

| Midtown West

We can always count on our favorite Brazilian babes to keep us in check: Alessandra’s flawless skin (removing our make-up after a bottle of rosé is hard), Adriana’s toned limbs (a bagel > the gym felt like a good idea at the time?) and Gisele’s seemingly ageless complexion (we’re still at a loss on this one). And Marina Larroude is no different. Besides being fresh-faced, leggy and eternally youthful (seriously, it’s like a Brazilian rite of passage), the Araçatuba and Saõ Paulo native is continually on top of her fashion game— think wide-leg flares, colorful tunics, strappy sandals and signature minis. Before joining Barneys New York as Fashion Director last year, Larroude was a contributing editor for Vogue Brazil, then Market Director of online fashion juggernaut,, and, most recently, TeenVOGUE’s Fashion and Accessories Director so besides being incredibly style savvy, she’s the first to champion up-and-coming designers over dressing like everybody else too (her current obsession is NY-based designer Caroline Constas). If we could, we’d bring her along on all future shopping expeditions (then ask her to put our outfits together). Girl’s got style and then some. Here, Larroude sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: I love Milos (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s the best restaurant in town for fresh Mediterranean food. I have lunch there with my family every Sunday— they have a prix-fixe for lunch which is a really great deal and, I promise you, there is no better fish in town. Also, I always order focaccia or pizza from Serafina (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s my weekly go-to for pizza.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee at home— I use beans from Douwe Egberts that I buy online. I always loved the coffee from Milan’s Grand Hotel so one day I asked the waiter what brand it was and ordered it; I even have paper cups and lids to take it on the go!

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: I adore Bar Pitti (MAP IT, x). If there is one restaurant that I always go back to no matter what, it’s Bar Pitti. I love the Puntarelle salad (when available), the branzino and the lobster pasta.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: An Aperol Spritz at Sant Ambroeus on Lafayette Street (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). In the summer, I also adore the “Waverly Lemonade” at The Waverly Inn (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

AFTER-WORK HAPPY HOUR: I rarely do them because that’s my time with my kids before I put them to bed, but Boom Boom Room (MAP IT, x) is my favorite spot at sunset; the space is beyond gorgeous and the views are insane!

LADIES LUNCH: Amaranth (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for the lobster salad. It’s really nice to sit outside there in the spring or summer.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Bar Pitti. From models to actresses to Valentino and his crowd… We usually go there or Milos for Sunday lunch.

HEALTHY STAPLE: I’ll have to say the cafeteria at Condé Nast. I always order the same fresh spinach salad with grilled salmon (I eat that from Monday to Friday). Otherwise, I adore the Cobb salad at Le Pain Quotidien (MAP IT).

GUILTY PLEASURE: Ice cream! I love it and can never have enough of it. A.B. Biagi (*Location now closed) has the best gelato in town— stracciatella or basil-pine nut are my go-to flavors.

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: My favorite NY spot is Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir (MAP IT, x). I run there a few days a week and the minute I get there, I feel so privileged that I get to live in such a busy city with such amazing nature…it’s a peaceful place in the heart of town.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: Getting to walk everywhere! And SLT (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)!

REGULAR AT: I love my routine! I go to SLT 3 days-a-week and on the other days, I run in Central Park (MAP IT, x). For my green juice, I love Blue Dog (MAP IT, x) at Le Parker Meridien— their “Green Plus” juice is the best in town! It is really tasty and not too sweet. Bondst (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is my go-to for sushi. I like The Waverly Inn or Indochine (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for dinner with friends…

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: The Waverly Inn for dinner or Bondst. The food is so good and they are both cozy and romantic.

KID-FRIENDLY STAPLE: I adore Bar Pitti for Sunday lunch with my kids. We probably go every other Sunday. If we are hungry for steak, we go to Wolfgang’s on Park Avenue (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)— it’s super quiet on the weekends so it’s always easy to get a table and the steak is amazing!

TO SEE AND BE SEEN: Boom Boom Room for drinks… Indochine always has a beautiful crowd too.

TO ESCAPE AND UNWIND: In the summer, we usually go to the Caribbean or to Europe for a week or so. In the Caribbean, my favorite place is Parrot Cay  in Turks and Caicos— it’s really special and remote and it’s only 3 hours away from NY. The hotel is on a private island so there are no cars around; it is the best place to unwind.

CLOSET CHECK: I would describe my style as classic with a twist. I adore prints and colors, but I like to tone it down: a printed skirt with a simple tee or a crazy top with jeans and so on. I feel very privileged that through my work I get to pre-order from designers directly, especially if they are young and just starting a brand. I love to find new talent and most of the time that means their pieces are not available in stores yet. Caroline Constas is a new favorite— I got an off the shoulder blue and white stripped cotton dress from her that I’ll be wearing all summer long. Otherwise, I spend my money online on Net-a-Porter, Matches or Farfetch… you can search for the piece you want and have it delivered directly to your house— done. In Miami, I love The Webster; I wish there was one in NY.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: Bergdorf Goodman‘s 7th floor (MAP ITx). Their home collection is the best in NY. From chocolates to fancy china, there is always something pretty for any budget.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: Emilia K. ( x) at Dr. Turk (MAP IT, x) is my favorite facialist— she is the best in NY. She really cleans the skin so you feel completely rejuvenated afterwards. For my hair, I go to Rita Hazan (MAP IT, x): I have Juan Carlos (x) cut and Adrian (x) color.

FIT PICK: I adore exercising and I’ve been doing it a lot lately. I find it very relaxing; it’s my “me” time for the day. I do SLT  with Amanda Rey (x)— she is amazing and it is the best exercise you can do— super intense and very challenging! I’m getting much stronger because of it. Also, once a week, I go to City Row (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s a great work-out and you can get out a lot of steam!

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: Everyday in NY is an “only-in-NY” moment. CP
