Actress| West Village
Rachel Zane, the charming paralegal-turned-associate on USA’s hit series Suits, is a picture of the New York woman— smart, tenacious, intuitive and incredibly well-dressed— and yet, Zane’s real-life counterpart actress Meghan Markle has her beat on all counts (it’s not every day you meet an actress with a double major in Theatre and International Relations from Northwestern). Take Markle’s resume, for example, which reads like the rumblings of the next ‘I am Woman’ campaign: former diplomat at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Hollywood star, professional calligrapher (she printed all of the place cards at Robin Thicke’s wedding), accomplished writer (by way of The TIG) and UN Women Advocate for Women’s Leadership and Political Participation. Yes, she’s on the cusp of perfection. Speaking of The TIG though, Markle’s personal website is a virtual marketplace for inspired food, fashion, travel and beauty; posting interviews with up-and-coming chefs to seasonal trend round-ups, it’s exactly the kind of curated lifestyle we can get behind. Here, Markle sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.
NY HOME AWAY FROM HOME: The Marlton Hotel (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) from the same wonderful team behind The Bowery Hotel; this chic spot couldn’t be in a better location and offers everything from coziness by the fire to charming bedrooms to a fabulously smart restaurant. I love the penthouse with its herringbone floor and claw-footed tub. Grab a cocktail at Margaux pre-dinner!
NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Babbo (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)— the quintessential Italian experience. Anything created by Mario Batali is amazing; the menu is seasonal, but you must have a pasta… especially if the papparadelle al cinghiale is an option!
HEALTHY STAPLE: By Chloe (MAP IT, x) recently opened by Chef Chloe Coscarelli who I interviewed for a “Chef Talk” on my lifestyle website, The TIG. It’s 100% vegan; I love the tempeh-lentil-chia burger!
FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: The ability to have everything delivered at any time of day.
TO SEE AND BE SEEN: Bleecker Street.
CLOSET CHECK: My uniform is pretty standard. My style is fairly minimalist, neutral, monochromatic with classic silhouettes, but I do love to pop into Geminola for eclectic, vintage pieces.
FIT PICK: Running along the West Side Highway.
ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: After attending back-to-back shows during NYFW, I hopped in a car and went straight to Flushing to cheer on Serena [Williams] at the women’s finals of the U.S. Open. The fact that your day can take you in a million amazing directions from couture to court-side is simply fantastic; only in New York. CP
