On Our Radar: Caroline Constas

By Alexandria Geisler

With Resort ’16 market appointments in full swing, we’re not only filled with impatience for our impending summer vacations (if only we could walk along the Côte d’Azur in Rosie Assoulin’s cut-out florals or J.W. Anderson’s polka dots), but we’re also reminded of just how inspiring the emerging fashion landscape in New York really is right now— rising designers who just get it, the “it” here being modern, wearable clothing with unapologetic personality. One such designer is Caroline Constas, the New-Yorker-by-way-of-Canada whose work we bonded over with TeenVOGUE’s Fashion and Accessories Director Marina Larroude just this week. Constas’ concept is finely-made cosmopolitan clothing which, season after season, is exactly what she delivers.

Inspired by nature, the label’s current S/S ’15 collection features relaxed silhouettes including drop-waist tunics and wide-leg pants in a garden floral (Constas’ favorite print to date) and a cotton Cambridge stripe, now a house signature. Of the striped variety, the Emmanuelle Strapless Shirt Dress and the Micah Dress are elevated riffs on summer staples— they’re dresses you’ll wear over and over again. However, we, like Larroude, are particularly fond of the breezy, off-the-shoulder Bardot Dress— it’s fresh, girlish, yet easy to wear. “It incorporates one of the strongest trends of the season, but it doesn’t come across as being too trendy,” says Constas. “It’s classic with a twist and it has that “jet set” feel which I think makes it the quintessential style to pack for your summer vacation!” Done and done Miss Constas; we can hardly wait to see what else you have up that perfectly bloused sleeve.
