On Our Radar: Wear Where When LA

WHERE WE’RE GOING AND WHAT WE’RE WEARING– FROM MORNING TO MIDNIGHT.

Between Daylight saving and the election, it’s been quite a long week. As all of us truly “TGIF” today (we can’t imagine we’re alone), it’s time to get back to ourselves– whether that means mindful meditation, coming together with friends or simply settling into our quotidian routines. Still, no matter where you fall on the emotional spectrum (depressed, exhausted, surprised or otherwise), there’s always room for a few pick-me-ups which is why we’ve teamed up with our dear friends at VIOLET GREY to bring you a brand-new dawn-’til-dusk guide to Los Angeles just in time for the weekend. From at-home coffee delivery to a 1920s dreamland, we’ve got the low-down on what to wear, where to go and when right here.

Beans By The Beach | Canyon Coffee
We’ve all been there: it’s Monday morning and desperate for that cup of coffee, you stumble into the kitchen only to find that proverbial kick in the pants– you’re completely out of beans. Why didn’t you just pick them up on the way home from brunch yesterday; was your The Night Of binge-watching really that imperative? As you scramble to calculate just how many tea bags it’ll take for your requisite caffeine fix (you know you have a box hiding somewhere), know that Venice Beach’s coolest couple has a better way. Dreamt up by model Ally Walsh and musician Casey Wojtalewicz, Canyon Coffee may be the best thing to happen to coffee drinkers since, well, coffee. Using only certified organic beans, the company offers a monthly subscription service where the beans are delivered directly to your door every 2-4 weeks (you need only decide how many bags you’d like). Given that Wojtalewicz used to clock in at two of LA’s greatest roasters, Bar Nine and Menotti’s, we have high hopes for Canyon Coffee’s own brew.

Mornings At Home: With your morning cup of joe on lockdown, you’ll have more time for a leisurely wake-up routine so why not start with a proper evening pamper? Lately, we’ve been treating ourselves to 1. Sisley-Paris Supremya Eyes at Night Cream, a natural, anti-aging eye cream that actually uses two of our morning staples, caffeine and açai, to reduce puffiness and lighten dark circles; its luxe blend of oats, shea butter and plum seed oil nourishes the skin and tightens pores too. For some much-needed lip love (sadly, chapped season is upon us), try 2. KNC All-Natural Collagen-infused Lip Mask which is an all-natural sheet mask that targets dryness; infused with collagen, hyaluronic acid, rose flower oil, cherry extract and vitamin E, it plumps and moisturizes lips at once (plus, it’s free of synthetic fragrance and parabens too). 3. Pai Chamomile and Rosehip Calming Day Cream completes our beauty indulgence– the day cream works to fight flare-ups and redness thanks to its blend of Omegas 3, 6, 7, and 9 and German chamomile. It’s the perfect moisturizer for sensitive skin.

Autumn Off Abbot | Chez Tex
*Recommended by Liseanne Frankfurt
We’ll take any excuse for a midday break on the West Side, but jewelry designer Liseanne Frankfurt had us extra excited earlier this week when she introduced us to a little hideaway called Chez Tex. Right on Venice’s Main Street, the farm-to-table café serves rotating seasonal plates à la nearby Gjelina, but without the rush hour wait times. Though its menu is decided on and handwritten daily, you can expect autumnal salads like roasted pumpkin and kale, a squash caprese, and Persian cucumber and little gem, all of which will be served on speckled ceramics and amidst stunning floral arrangements (think ceiling-sweeping eucalyptus) of course. They even have a pot de crème to rival their aforementioned neighbor’s beloved dessert, too.  (MAP IT)

Green & Lean: Eat like a model, look like a model? At the very least, Chez Tex’s farm-to-table plates are inspiring us to eat green and keep lean. And thankfully, a few VIOLET GREY tricks can help us with the latter. Take 1. Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body, a tinted sculpting cream which creates the illusion of longer and leaner limbs; its wild shiitake extract boosts collagen (thus firming and toning arms and legs) while a blend of caffeine and menthol promote lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness. Rolling the applicator down the center of our limbs and blending outwards, the cream created contours out of cellulite… it’s really that good. Likewise, 2. Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate in “Intensity One” works to similarly balance and accentuate facial bone structure– a duo of highlighting and shading creams, the palette brightens the face while defining its natural contours. Lastly, no model-approved look is complete without some brow support: 3. Laura Mercier Brow Definer in “Warm” is our latest find; the wax-meets-gel formula not only deepens your natural brow color for a fuller look, but it keeps hairs in place for the ultimate feathered texture.

“N” is for New Natural Nails  | Base Coat
From renowned art galleries to excellent eateries (ahem, Otium and Manuela), LA’s Arts District is a venerable hotbed of new and exciting projects so it was only a matter of time before the beauty biz caught on. Enter Base Coat, an organic nail salon offering all-natural, 8-free polish nail treatments in a space that looks more like a bohemian café than it does a mani-pedi locale. Featuring playfully printed lounge chairs, rattan light fixtures and hanging greenery, the salon’s décor is as forward-thinking as its health-conscious services. Oh, and did we mention its fully stocked bar (featuring brass finishings and pop art)? It’s complete with herbal mocktails by Dram Apothecary alchemist Shae Whitney… NBD. (MAP IT)

Love Yourself First: We’re overjoyed that all-natural beauty businesses are not only trending, they’re thriving. In fact, we’re firm believers in the idea that beauty starts from within– including the products we let seep into our bodies on a daily basis. So, taking a page out of Base Coat’s playbook, we’re cleansing our cosmetic bags this month by swapping out a few drug store necessities with healthier, all-natural options. 1. Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex facial oil is an ideal replacement to perfumed lotion, relying instead on micronutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to hydrate the skin and improve its natural glow. Then there’s 2. Agent Nateur No. 3 Deodorant Holi(Stick), the chemical-free deodorant we’ve been waiting for– it’s handmade with food-grade, pesticide-free and aluminum-free ingredients including coconut oil, avocado butter and raw honey, but the best part? Its blend of lavender and eucalyptus essential oils means it actually works to omit body odor. 3. Olas Marine Bio-Active Mouthrinse is a mouthwash inspired by the ocean’s natural cleansing properties so you won’t find any of the usual chemical suspects (AKA sodium laurel sulfate, fluoride, alcohol, artificial colors and fragrances) that make up the typical store-bought brands; we use it in the mornings and in the evenings, but lately, we’ve been toting a bottle around as a game-changing alternative to fake-sugar-laden gum too.

Café Society | Delilah
We know, we know, another reservation-only West Hollywood hot spot, but when the guys behind it are The Nice Guy’s John Terzian and Brian Tollare, it’s worth at least a second look. Channeling 1920’s high society hangouts, Delilah is straight out of a Chaplin movie– from its gem-colored banquettes to its mirrored ceilings and Deco décor. The Nice Guy’s Chef Rudy P. Lopez is responsible for the kitchen’s comfort food classics like oysters, baby back ribs and truffle mac n’ cheese– the kinds of dishes you crave after one too many cocktails which is likely no coincidence given Delilah’s superb bar program. Mixologist Matt Seigel has come up with an incredibly unique line-up of elixirs including a rum, pisco, chardonnay and rosehip cocktail called “The Pink Pussycat” and a banana and spice-infused tequila, frangelico and tea pot bitters drink, the “Loca Loni.” They’re boozy, bold and beautiful (the Loni is presented with a flaming cinnamon stick), and worth the trip alone. Toss in its Instagram-ready carrot soufflé and its nightly live music, and it’s the stuff of date night dreams. (MAP IT)

Putting On The Glitz: When a venue so gloriously harkens back to the 1920s, it’d nearly be sacrilege not to cater to its esprit… non? Surely it’s not just us who have been waiting for the occasion to channel Woody Allen’s Café Society IRL? For those of you like us, we’re partial to big hair, scarlet lips and one intoxicating signature scent. For the former, 1. Christophe Robin Rose Water Volumizing Mist is a volumizer made up of 96% rose water meaning it’s nourishing, not drying– the rose water softens and shines while baobab extract creates body and volume (while we’re at it, the mist is also free of alcohol, parabens, sulfates, phthalates and silicones so finally there’s a haircare product you don’t have to feel guilty about). Inspired by the Italian Riveria, 2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte Eau de Parfum combines bold citrus notes with opulent florals and leather for a scent that feels nostalgic, yet exotic; the unique inclusion of Tunisian neroli, myrtle and tarragon is what really has us hooked. And for Rodin fans, the brand’s 3. Rodin Luxury Lipstick in “Red Hedy” is the creamy, long-lasting scarlet lipstick of dreams; an homage to Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr, the stick’s blend of 11 natural oils (including jasmine, neroli, rose flower and apricot) help to achieve an even stain-like finish.
