On Our Radar: Wear Where When NYC

WHERE WE’RE GOING AND WHAT WE’RE WEARING– FROM MORNING TO MIDNIGHT.

With the end of March in sight, we’re finding we have nothing but major tunnel vision for spring. We’re sick of wearing tee-shirts during the week only to need our parkas by the weekend, and we’re pretty sure our Caviar delivery men and women are sick of us calling on them for every meal from Friday night through Monday morning too… But, if wacky weather means our wardrobes will have to wait to officially change, at least we can have fun when it comes to beauty. Joined by our beauty gal pals at VIOLET GREY, we’re breaking down our new, favorite medicine cabinet helpers, plus dropping tips on the coolest new spots around town to wear ’em. Check it all out below.

Brunch, But Better  | Lalito
Chef Gerardo Gonzalez left the L.E.S.’s trendy café El Rey to open his first solo spot, Lalito, late last year and, unsurprisingly, it’s been generating buzz ever since. But, unlike its dinner service— a carnitas-anchored feast praised by nearly every food chronicle in town— Lalito’s weekend brunch program is relatively unsung (a blessing in comparison to the hour-plus lines around town). Pop by with friends for creative plates like greek yogurt with roasted yams and flax-quinoa granola or coconut grits topped with the Chinatown cafe’s signature 12-hr braised pork (or its 12-hr braised turnips if you’re vegetarian/vegan). Of course, more traditional bites like breakfast sandwiches, scrambles and egg platters are also available. Low-key, delicious and mostly healthy, it’s an ideal way to start the day. (MAP IT)

Low Maintenance, High Impact: If we could wear no makeup, we would– which is why lately we can’t seem to get enough of 1. Joanna Vargas Daily Serum ($85), an everyday serum that blends high-potency antioxidants with essential vitamins to brighten the face, even skin tone, minimize pores and increase moisture; basically, it perfects your un-made-up complexion in the most glorious way. Throw your hair back in a chic clip like this 2. Adir x Lelet NY Mega Liquid Metallic Barrette ($188) (FYI, it’s hand-made and plated in 18k gold) and style your brows with a quick swipe of 3. Glossier Boy Brow ($16)– pure weekend-brunch gold.

The Art of Style | Living Modern, Brooklyn Museum
The Brooklyn Museum’s newest exhibit, Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern, takes a look at the modernist artist through a new lens, focusing on how her personal style and self-crafted public persona were a vehicle for her progressive and independent lifestyle. For the first time, the museum’s curators have paired iconic pieces from O’Keeffe’s wardrobe with a selection of her paintings and photographs to highlight just how present her strong spirit was in all aspects of her life and to affirm her title as a contemporary style icon once and for all(MAP IT)

Let Your Light Shine: An artist is nothing if not a master of the senses so channel your inner O’Keeffe by playing with light, smell and color. 1. RMS BEAUTY Living Luminizer ($38) is an ultra-sheer highlighter that catches light to accentuate natural cheekbones. 2. Tom Ford Santal Blush Eau de Parfum ($225) is a sensual, woodsy scent of Indian spices, cinnamon, ylang ylang, sandalwood and musk; its mysterious spirit and modern earthiness reminds us of the legendary artist, herself. 3. Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint in Lilac ($28) adds dimension to eyes with its barely-there purple hue (plus, its mix of organic, naturally-derived oils and butters hydrates the lids wonderfully). 4. Adir x Lelet NY Metallic Peak Pin ($268), an 18k gold hair pin adds a final creative touch because, well, in every good artist lies some quirk.

Cool Kid on the Block  | Monroe
Already armed with two cool-kid hits (both CP contrib favorites), the owners of Forgtmenot and Kiki’s are ready to bring a new kind of standby to their Two Bridges neighborhood: Monroe. Featuring an eclectic menu of comfort foods, the funky hideaway is housed inside a former glass factory with bites ranging from eggplant parm to paella to hot dogs. Between its something-for-everyone kitchen program and its in-the-know pedigree, we’re sure it won’t take long for it to become a perennially-packed house. (MAP IT)

Cool Factor: Without a doubt, face oil is de rigueur, but, unfortunately, it can also go wrong fast– we’ve had our fair share of greasy and gloppy. That’s where 1. African Botanicals Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil ($250) comes in: a wild-harvested, organic oil formulate to combat urban stress, UV damage, and pollution (AKA “city life”) while reducing dryness, redness and fine lines. But, the best part? This little miracle worker adds just enough shine without looking “shiny.” Outline eyes in a subtle warm grey like 2. Charlotte Tilbury Rock n’ Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Veruschka Mink ($27) for a wide-eyed look with a subtle smokiness, and color in lips with our new lipstick of choice: 3. Kosås Weightless Lip Color in Stardust ($24), an all-natural brownish-pink. Hand-made with sweet orange oil, the ‘stick not only boosts lip collagen, but it smells like heaven too.

Starry Night | Metrograph
Recently, Broadway scenic designer Scott Pask dropped one of our favorite date night tips of all-time when he gave a shout-out to newish, indie theatre, Metrograph. “Metrograph Cinema is a gem; you can watch archive-quality, 35mm prints as well as digital projection,” he spilled. “Their restaurant upstairs, Commissary is a great room and place to meet for breakfast through late night, too.” Decorated in jewel tones and complete with an envy-inducing candy wall (check out their Instagram), it’s bringing back some of the magic that used to be, “a night at the movies.” (MAP IT)

Old-School Glam: With a theatre this chic, “going to the movies” is taking back some of its old-school caché. Follow suit and play up your glam with 1. Kjaer Weis Bronzer Compact ($56), a refillable, organic bronzer for a golden glow; 2. Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Instant Hollywood False Lash Effect Mascara ($32) for high-impact lashes that deliver on volume and length; and 3. Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Cream Eyeshadow in Mona Lisa ($32), an easy-to-apply cream that smolders and shines (we pair it with our go-to Veruschka Mink eye pencil (mentioned above) for the perfect doe eye). CP
