On Our Radar | Wear Where NYFW

Last month, we announced we’d be partnering with VIOLET GREY in our brand-new On Our Radar segments, monthly posts chronicling where to go and what to wear in New York and Los Angeles from morning to midnight. Of course, the stories highlight of note hideaways and happenings we think you should know about (it’s what we do best), but they also follow another industry’s cutting edge: beauty’s best and brightest. Given NYFW is officially in full-swing, we decided to tailor this one appropriately– think on-the-go healthy eats, glowing skin and a model-approved brow for all of our show-going friends.

Calm Before That NYFW Storm | Eataly Downtown
Forget Pret– the best quick breakfast is waiting for you inside FiDi’s latest coup, Eataly. The Italian marketplace’s new downtown location is equipped with a standing espresso bar, Lavazza coffee, pressed juice/smoothie stand, housemade pastries and fresh fruit, not to mention takeaway-ready yogurt, smoked salmon and breakfast panino; and the best part? It’s half as crowded as its Flatiron predecessor (at least, pre-lunch hour that is). If you find yourself able to enjoy a sit-down meal before jetting off to morning shows, Eataly’s Orto e Mare restaurant boasts a killer menu– its amarena-cherry-granola bowl, and crab-and-leek frittata being highlights. After all, the best brekkies are the ones that whisk you away to Italy before a day of cursing the city’s transportation systems and your unbroken-in heels, sì?

Bright-Eyed & Bushy-Heeled: 1. Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar is made with Dead Sea mud from the Jordan River and what this little bar has done for our skin is as precious as its ingredients (all 26 essential minerals of them). Exfoliating the skin without stripping it of natural oils, the soap actually made the CP team’s faces noticeably softer, smoother and clearer. We’re hooked. 2. Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil is made with fresh camellia petals that moisturize and illuminate your hair while providing UV protection for color. We’re big fans of easy, 5-minutes-or-less morning routines so a fresh face and healthy-looking hair is as perfect to us as our 9 am double espresso. 3. And speaking of “fresh faces,” Vita Liberata Body Blur is our new wake-up pièce de resistance: it gently tans the skin while masking imperfections and reflecting light… AKA that glow-y, model skin can now be yours (it gets bonus points for being water-resistant and easy to layer underneath foundation).

Lunch On The Go-Go | Wisefish Poké & Dizengoff near Milk Studios
With overlapping shows giving way to color-coated schedules that look as if we’re back in grade school, we don’t have time for more than a grab-n-go salad or bowl which is why we’re particularly grateful for Milk Studios neighbors, Wisefish Poké and Dizengoff. At Wisefish, in lieu of build-your-own salad bowls, there are protein-packed poké ones on offer, with base options including zucchini noodles and brown rice; tuna (spicy or regular), salmon and tofu for protein; and cucumber, avocado, seaweed salad, jalapeño and more as toppings. Sauces run the gamut from wasabi avocado cream to citrus ponzu. Also nearby, Dizengoff is an Israeli newcomer serving hummus platters with roasted vegetables, meat and market salads. Served with pita, pickles and tradtional Israeli salad, all of its bowls taste extremely fresh, but our favorite is the baba ghanoush topped with roasted zucchini, hazelnuts, sesame seeds and mint. Both takeaway shops are perfect for a pop-in before or after Milk events. (Wisefish: MAP IT; Dizengoff: MAP IT)

Model See, Model Do: In the spirit of NYFW, we’re drawing model inspo, from our healthy meals down to our au naturale looks. 1. First off, Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight is a powder concealer/illuminator that’s perfect for a midday tune-up. Running around from show to show can get tiring and it’s definitely noticeable on our faces– we dab this under our eyes to cover bags and shadows. Quite honestly, we’ve tried a lot of concealers in our day– liquid, powder and otherwise– and we’ve never found one that has us looking more awake or brighter (*Pro tip: apply to cheekbones for a highlighted glow too). 2. No model-approved look would be complete without a strong brow and at the moment, Christian Dior Diorshow Brow Chalk in Dark Brown is our go-to. It’s waterproof, long-lasting and works to thicken and texturize brows at once. 3. For the finishing touches, we always have RMS Beauty Master Mixer on hand. Made with coconut oil, the all-purpose, rose gold highlighting cream gives a warm golden glow to lips, cheeks and eyes without the usual, albeit unwanted glitter of other cosmetics.

Afternoon Aperitivo | La Sirena
On the West side and close to Milk Studios, Mario Batali’s La Sirena has just what the fashion week doctor’s ordered: read a sun-decked patio and a four-page aperitivo menu. There are all the classics: spritz’s, sangria, margaritas and negronis to be had; and then, there are the more-inventive concoctions broken down by spirit: frozen whiskey amaros with cherry, the “Sicilian Sour” with rum and amaretto, the “Spice Me Baby One More Time,” a red chili pepper and honey mezcal margarita, and a “Down The Hatch” with whiskey, prosecco and cointreau. Moving on to the wine front, La Sirena offers five sparkling and four rosé numbers too so, apparently, they get us better than some of our closest of friends. (MAP IT)

Turn it Up: Our greatest fashion week “friends” are the ones that can make us look “done” in a few spritzes or swipes and easily fit into our Instagram-worthy, but teensy-tiny bags (that is, besides our spiked and/or bubbly friends). Between afternoon shows, we always make time for a quick happy hour and this season, we have three beauty essentials for it. 1. Philip Kingsley Weatherproof Hairspray is an anti-static, anti-frizz hairspray that also serves as a sunscreen to prolong the life of your color. Basically, it makes your hair look like you wanted it to when you left the house this morning, no matter how long your day has been. 2. Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint in Plum is made with organic, natural oils and butters so it hydrates lids, while offering sheer color. We’re super into purple tones this season (they’re making quite the comeback). Swipe twice on each eyelid for a subtle pop that lends just enough afternoon-je-ne-sais-quoi. 3. We pair the shadow with a rosey nude lip using Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in No.3. The stick adds fullness and dimension, plus a gorgeous matte shine.

Food for Fashion & Friends | Pondicheri Cafe
Mosaic-tiled floors, rattan stools and casual, market-driven Indian, the recently-opened Pondicheri Cafe is spicing up Flatiron, both literally and figuratively. The airy, industrial-like space feels more downtown LA than it does 27th & Broadway (which happens to be just what this neighborhood needs), and its menu of small plates may not be surprising in format (what dishes aren’t meant for sharing these days), but it certainly is in taste. In a world of “farm-to-table” everything, Pondicheri’s bold, albeit beautiful plates are what we’ve been waiting for: sampler platters of smoked eggplant and sweet potato samosas, grilled fish with beet cashew raita, and a vegetarian coconut-ginger stew with cauliflower, squash, carrots and turmeric rice. Sides of pistachio apricot naan, carrot roti and pomegranate salad all carry a vegetable-focus, but they’re a welcome departure from NYC’s ubiquitous beet burgers and avocado toast. We’ll be stopping by here with our girls post-Moniyhan Station shows all NYFW (*Pro tip: their lunch salads are also on point). (MAP IT)

Off Our Feet, Ready to Eat: After 10+ fashion shows per day, we look forward to two things: flat shoes and food– real food. Transitioning from our “undone done” make-up looks for day, we use 1. Chantecaille Longest Lash Faux Cils Mascara to thicken and lengthen our lashes, 2. MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl to define and accentuate the lips (lip pencils are beauty’s most underrated tool) and 3. Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Pink Tease. Ford’s lipsticks smell like coconuts and heaven, and they go on like velvet. Trust.
