Resort ’17 | Prabal Gurung

THE DESIGNER’S NEWEST COLLECTION IS A LESSON IN RELAXED COOL.

As luck would have it, our CP shoot with Prabal Gurung would happen to coincide with another shoot of the designer’s: his Resort ’17 look book. As models readied themselves in the showroom, Gurung escorted us out the back window where we’d be snapping him for his feature (FYI: the Empire State building plays as his office backdrop). And yet, somewhere between those epic fire escape shots and discovering our mutual love of K-Town, we couldn’t help but sneak a peek at the patchwork parkas, lace-up pull-overs and sexy see-through little numbers that zipped past us en route to Gurung’s photo studio.

Now officially debuted, the collection was inspired by the designer’s recent trip to Belize— a mash-up of breezy separates with tailored silhouettes befitting of an urban glamazon off to some coastal hideaway. White dominated most pieces, with pops of brick and black, to ensure that the focus was on the detail— whether that be mesh cut-outs, leather patchwork or Matisse-like prints. For the most part, the designs were form-fitting (Gurung does this masterfully so), but the smattering of knubby-knit sweaters proved the perfect comfy counter to the myriad of fitted dresses and formal gowns. Indeed, we’re hoping the designer continues in his new quest for casual cool.
