Shop Now: Calliope

IN THE HEART OF THE WEST VILLAGE, WORLDS COLLIDE IN A ONE-OF-A-KIND HOME STORE STOCKING BRIC-A-BRAC FROM NEAR AND FAR.

So we’ve already picked Caroline Ventura’s brain on all things New York (spoiler alert: her little black book is really good), but we’d be remiss not to cast a spotlight on her and her husband, Michael’s West Village home store, Calliope too. Occupying the ground level of the couple’s multi-functional building— it’s home to Michael’s creative agency, Caroline’s jewelry studio and the Ventura’s personal bi-level loft too— the boutique is a bonafide trove of mid-century and contemporary treasures. The pair envisioned a creative space for “the things they like” and, like clockwork, their knack for curation is palpable as soon as you step inside— think oriental rugs, minimalist marble coffee tables, vintage records and ceramic flasks. Each offbeat piece contributes to a distinct “coolness” that permeates Calliope, which makes it all the better that everything from its lighting and artwork to the tiniest crystal is for sale. On a recent visit, we were enamored with patterned wool throws, vintage glass salt cellars and matching hippopotamus and pig paperweights, not to mention the dainty ear cuffs and gold bands from Caroline’s jewelry line, BRVTVS that perennially catch our eye. Emanating from the Ventura’s vision for a collaborative community space, Calliope hosts lessons for independent crafts like drawing, flower arranging and butchery too. With a little something for everyone, it’s a place you’ll undoubtedly want to linger in, then return time and time again— it’s shopping… for the soul. Take a look at the boutique and some of our favorite odds and ends available right now.
