Summer Staples c/o Assembly New York

NEW YORK LABEL ASSEMBLY DELIVERS BLACK AND WHITE BASICS WITH REAL STAYING POWER.

This week’s CITIPHILE and Assembly New York designer Greg Armas knows the power of a good basic— to use his words, there’s a certain “quiet authority” that comes with a well-cut button-down or perfectly slouchy tank. As such, Assembly’s pieces aren’t the kind you notice from across the street, but the ones you fall in love with on a friend across the dinner table, when you find yourself thinking, “Wow, that neckline is flattering” or “her shorts are just plain cool.” Rendered in the universal neutrals black and white, Assembly’s current collection is like most: chock-full of separates better likened to a second skin. Below, we’ve included our favorite pieces, all of which we’ll be wearing this season and beyond.

cami

1. Black Camisole Top ($258)
A dream cami with criss-cross spaghetti straps and an unexpected side slit for the perfect hang across the body.

shift

2. Black Pocket Shift Dress ($386)
A summer LBD that you could easily dress up or down; we love the row of buttons cascading down the back.

shirt

3. Black Viscose Twist Top ($271)
Savvy dressing at its finest: button the collar, go to the office; unbutton it, head to happy hour; repeat.

maxi

4. White Indian Dress ($270)
What we’d want to wear on a picnic in Central Park or dinner out in St. Tropez; it’s subtle, but dramatic.

tank

5. White Rib Swim Tank ($110)
An athletic cut that reminds us of our Speedo one-pieces in grade school, only chicer. Much, much chicer.

shorts

6. Black Gather Short ($166)
A model off-duty short with just enough ‘tude. The grosgrain tuxedo stripe lends a sleek finish making them more night-appropriate than most summer shorts.
