Amanda Weiner

Senior Accessories Editor, Harper’s Bazaar

| SoHo

A private tour of the Bulgari headquarters in Rome, test-driving Chanel’s latest gemstone-bedecked jewels, actual breakfast at Tiffany’s… Sure, this sounds like some modern-day sequel to Pretty Woman, but for Amanda Weiner, it’s just her 9-to-5. The Senior Accessories Editor of Harper’s Bazaar, Weiner has a knack for finding incredible accoutrements that are anything but— think marabou-trimmed shoes, diamond headpieces and floating pearl ear cuffs. In fact, every time we flip through the fashion glossy, we’re inspired to shake up our accessories game. She understands the devil is in the details— whether it be a perfectly placed waist belt or a ring stack that’s cool, not clunky— and as such, she often finds herself in front of the lens of street style bloggers like Tommy Ton and Phil Oh. So, next time you’re feeling ordinary, just ask yourselves, “W.W.A.D.?” We often do. Here, Weiner sits down with CITIPHILE to reveal her little black book on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: Giorgione (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It has such an easy feel, but it’s special at the same time. I order the Tre Tipi and Spaghetti Chitarra al Pomodoro. I also love going to Tamarind (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) and ordering chicken tikka masala and gobi masalum. It’s my ultimate comfort food.

COFFEE OR TEA: Coffee from the coffee cart on the corner of 57th and 8th Avenue; the man working it greets me with a smile and always has my coffee ready to go the way I like it.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: ABC Kitchen (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s fresh, rustic and just a little indulgent. The crab toast with meyer lemon is a must.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: A Ketel One dirty martini at The Grill (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).

GIRLS NIGHT OUT: Acme (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) or Up and Down (MAP IT, x)— sometimes a girl just has to dance.

MUSIC PICK: I love all kinds of music. Irving Plaza (MAP IT, x) is one of my favorite city venues. It’s not too big, not too small.

BEST BRUNCH: My go-to for brunch is Gemma (MAP IT, x). Their Bloody Marys and baked eggs are the best in the city. I also love Café Mogador (MAP IT, x) for the Moroccan Eggs and Maialino (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) for their Cacio e Pepe soft scrambled eggs.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: Anywhere during New York Fashion Week.

HEALTHY STAPLE: Sweetgreen (MAP IT, x) for a seasonal salad.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Dessert is my weakness. Momofuku Milk Bar’s (MAP IT, x) birthday cake truffles and cereal milk ice cream are truly a New York City treat.

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: Alidoro (MAP IT, x). It’s the best, “real deal” Italian sandwich shop. It reminds me of my days living in Florence.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: Delivery, everything.

REGULAR AT: Da Umberto (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) is like an uptown restaurant downtown. A total classic. I’m probably there once a week and I get the antipasti every time.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) has great food and a warm, romantic atmosphere.

CLOSET CHECK: My style is classic, yet modern. Barneys (MAP IT, x), Dover Street Market (MAP IT, x) and American Two Shot (MAP IT, x) are some of my favorite stores.

ACCESSORIES PICK: I tend to wear personal jewelry and am usually wearing my leaf ring and arrow earring from Anita Ko, a pair of black booties and a cross body bag. My current favorites are lug sole Michael Kors heels and a Ferragamo cross body. Fivestory (MAP ITx) wins for the most unique finds. Claire Distenfeld (x) has such a great eye for emerging designers and her fine jewelry and home collections really stand out. De Vera (MAP IT, x) is also a downtown treasure. Their collection of vintage jewelry and objects is like nowhere else.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: A great bottle of wine is my go-to.

BEST HOME DÉCOR: My interior style is similar to my personal style – classic, but I am always drawn towards pieces that are interesting and have a unique element— whether its texture, silhouette or finish. I love John Derian (MAP IT, x); it’s truly a treasure trove of artisanal home décor and gifts.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: i-Plaza (MAP IT, x) is the only place I can actually relax while getting a manicure. It’s a perfect zen little haven.

FIT PICK: I train with Erin West (x) from Body Conceptions by Mahri (MAP IT, x). It’s the perfect balance of cardio dance and strength training.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: These moments usually come with surprising kindness from a stranger— whether its sharing a cab in a storm or being caught from slipping in a snow bank. People say New Yorkers are tough, but more often than not I find that just the opposite is true. CP
