Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs

Designers, Cushnie et Ochs

| SoHo | L.E.S.

With cut-outs and vampy silhouettes among the label’s signatures, Cushnie et Ochs is as dynamic and daring as the designers themselves. The two met while attending Parsons The New School for Design and after landing coveted internships at major fashion houses including Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler and Ralph Rucci, the girls launched their own label in 2008. Quickly garnering fans like Karlie Kloss and Diane Kruger, the women’s wear brand delivers powerful, feminine collections with modern sex appeal. Here, the girls sit down with CITIPHILE to reveal their little black books on NYC.

NEIGHBORHOOD STANDBY: CC: Sant Ambroeus (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). It’s always a favorite any time of day.
MO: The Mermaid Inn (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). I am a sucker for seafood.

COFFEE OR TEA: CC: Neither. I generally prefer getting a green smoothie from the Vitamin Chick (*Location now closed).
MO: I have Dunkin’ love. There are several Dunkin’ Donuts surrounding our office. You can’t avoid them.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE RESTAURANT: CC: Raoul’s (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x). They have the best Steak au Poivre anywhere.
MO: Any of the Blue Ribbon restaurants. You can’t go wrong– from sushi to fried chicken.

BEST BRUNCH: CC: Locanda Verde (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).
MO: Lafayette (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x)– great food and my puppy loves the outdoor seating.

BEST PEOPLE WATCHING: CC: Sitting outside at Bar Pitti (MAP IT, x) is always great for people watching. That place is never empty.
MO: Outdoor seating at any restaurant. The streets of New York were made for people watching.

BEST OUTDOOR SPACE: CC: On a sunny day, I always love the roof at 60 SoHo (MAP IT, x) as it tends to be less chaotic than some of the other ones nearby.
MO: I love my apartment rooftop with unobstructed views of uptown and downtown, but getting any sun in New York is amazing.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT: CC: I like to go to Miss Lily’s (MAP ITBOOK IT, x). The music is always so good and gets me dancing in my seat.
MO: I agree with Carly. Miss Lily’s is super fun and the food is amazing.

COCKTAIL DE LA NUIT: CC: I love going to the bar at La Esquina (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) and having a margarita and a sneaky taco, but Grey Goose is normally my drink of choice. I also like Baby Grand (MAP IT, x) in Tribeca for a cocktail and a little boogie.
MO: A Grey Goose, slightly dirty martini, no olives.

HEALTHY STAPLE: CC: One of the lovely salads at The Mercer Kitchen (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).
MO: Wasabi (MAP IT, x). They have individually wrapped sushi so you can get exactly what you want.

GUILTY PLEASURE: CC: Definitely the Ladurée that recently opened in SoHo (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x).
MO: Treating myself to a massage at least twice a month. It really helps me reset.

IDEAL SATURDAY: CC: Saturday morning spin class at Equinox (MAP IT, x) followed by a very long brunch with friends that rolls into dinner.
MO: Sleeping in until you can’t sleep anymore followed by a long brunch.

DATE NIGHT STANDBY: CC: Navy (*Location now closed). It’s very small and super quaint with great food.
MO: A walk on The High Line with ice cream.

NY’S BEST-KEPT SECRET: CC: Staying in the city on holiday weekends while everyone else races to the beach.

FIRST THING I MISS WHEN I’M AWAY: CC: The service and the energy.
MO: All the conveniences it provides; you can have anything at anytime.

BEST HOST/HOSTESS GIFTS: CC: Beautiful candles from Aedes de Venustas in the West Village (MAP IT, x).
MO: Diptyque (MAP IT, x) is the best place go to place to buy hostess gifts. I love their candles.

BEAUTY BLACK BOOK: CC: Nail Designer Pattie Yankee (x) always does my gel manicures and no other manicures last as long as hers do.
MO: Nail Designer Pattie Yankee is the only one allowed near my nails. She is a genius.

FIT PICK: CC: I love to mix up my routine. I go between gym and spin workouts at Equinox (Craig Hunter is the best spin instructor), Vinyasa classes at Yoga Works (MAP IT, x) and I recently discovered SLT (MAP IT, BOOK IT, x) which is just amazing.
MO: Right now, my puppy is my new source of exercise. He keeps me running all day long.

ULTIMATE NY MOMENT: CC: Witnessing a mugging followed by the most awesome citizens arrest on a busy street in midtown. The whole street cheered as three guys pinned the mugger to the
ground. I love it when New Yorkers come together.
MO: One evening, I convinced a cab driver to let me drive myself home in his cab while he rode shotgun. It was his first day and he was super nervous so I told him I would show him the way. This was once in a lifetime. CP
